LOD / Musical theatre on freedom of thought

‘De gehangenen’ (The hanged) are the people who asked questions out loud, proclaimed their findings out loud, refused to acquiesce in what was already known or what was written, anddemanded the freedom to question and investigate. They frequently paid for their curiosity with their lives. The music by Jan Kuijken is performed by the musicians of the Orchestre Royal de Chambre de Wallonie. A musical story that has a place for actors, singers and Jan himself, with his cello and recorded material. Above the string ensemble hangthree singers and two actors.

Josse DePauw wrote their lines. It was translated into Latin for the singers, and in the narration occasionally reminds us of a mass, perhaps a requiem, but is equally a reminder that Latin was the first universal language of science.

The actorsplay, in Dutch, a man and a woman, two researchers who spoke too soon and too loudly. The performance is an ode to freedom of thought and the bold expression of these thoughts.
