Rumours lead their own life

Rumours abound when the body of a young woman is found. Suspicions, half truths and guesses determine the search for the perpetrator. The rumours go from bad to worse, and the stories start leading their own terrifying life. Rumor is a new opera of German composer Christian Jost. The libretto is based on the book A sweet scent of death by none other than Guillermo Arriaga. He is the director of well-known films Babel, 21 Grams, Amores Perros. The plot is ingenious in other words, and the music is in the capable hands of contemporary opera composer Christian Jost.

Team

Composer Christian Jost's musical language is refined and complex. Through his music he wants to open the door again to mystery in our unveiled world. His successful opera Hamlet was praised by opera magazine Opernwelt as the ‘creation of 2009’. Guy Joosten is directing Rumor. He is an experienced director who, just like conductor Martyn Brabbins, is very much at home in the modern and contemporary repertoire. The cast is made up of singers with a particularly strong presence on the stage: Werner Van Mechelen, Gregg Baker, Ursula Hesse von der Steinen and Michael Krause.
