Following Samson et Dalila, which came out last year, Il Giasone is now available on DVD too. This little known and ‘unjustly forgotten masterpiece’ (Knack) was on at the Flanders Opera in the 2009-10 season.
It was directed by Mariame Clément, who recently scored a hit with an exceptionally well received Il viaggio a Reims (2011-12). The baroque specialist Federico Maria Sardelli (Il ritorno d’Ulisse in patria, 2010-11) conducted the Flanders Opera orchestra, which was for this occasion supplemented with baroque instruments.
The DVD, recorded at the Flanders Opera in Antwerp and issued by Dynamic, can from now on be purchased at the box offices in Antwerp and Ghent at only €25. The CD recording is also available, at €23.
‘Three hours of pure entertainment … one of the most humorous productions of the past opera season.’ Cutting Edge
‘In its time, Giasone was actually a big hit, one of the most popular of the period.’ Knack
Nominated for the best set by Opernwelt magazine (2010).
