"Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg" could be seen as the comical version of Tannhäuser. The Meistersingers are with their competitions the close minded colleagues of the Meistersingers in Wartburg. The contradiction between conservatisme and artistic renewing gets treated with the necessary relativisme.
