European party

A group of aristocratic tourists travels from all corners of Europe to Reims. They are on their way to Charles X's coronation. However, they are stranded in the ‘Giglio d’oro’ spa in Plombières and decide to improvise their own coronation party. This is the prelude to Rossini's dramma giocoso. A hilarious performance, full of musical jokes and double entendres, one of the highlights being a parody on European folk songs. The young director is Mariame Clément, who has moved the setting of the spa to an airplane.

Production of the Ópera de Oviedo.

Team

Il viaggio a Reims bears witness to Rossini's musical talent and ingenuity: it is one of his best operas. It is hard to imagine anyone better than conductor and Rossini specialist Alberto Zedda for this exuberant opera. Last season he won everyone over with Semiramide. He will work with a cast of ten exquisite Rossini performers. The young and successful Mariame Clément is directing. Her direction of Il viaggio a Reims already caught the attention of the opera theatres of Bern, Oviedo and Tel Aviv, as will be the case in Flanders Opera.
