The magical world of Oberon is situated halfway between "Die
Entführung" by Mozart and "Ein Sommernachtstraum" by Mendelssohn. In
this opera, which was originally produced for Covent Garden, Oberon,
king of the fairies, who is taken from the well-known Shakespeare play
"A Midsummer Night's Dream", helps the knight Huon to make advances to
Reiza, daughter of the Caliph of Bagdad. Like the lovers in Mozart,
they are forced to endure all sorts of ordeals as a test of their
enduring loyalty to each other.
Bearing in mind the English origins of the work, Marc Minkowski reverts to the original London version.
Practical
Surtitles: Dutch.
