The Flanders Opera thanks the more than 70 volunteers who came to donate blood on Tuesday 2 April in the wings of the Parsifal stage. Apart from a good number of new blood donors, the action also attracted some media attention. Radio 2 broadcast a report, Het Laatste Nieuws and the Gazet van Antwerpen devoted an article to the event.

Opera XXI launch

On Wednesday 27 March a press conference was held for what is now the third Opera XXI festival. This biennial festival will be held from 14 to 25 May and presents contemporary musical theatre. More about the productions can be found at www.operaxxi.be.

On Saturday 26 January you can listen to a performance of our recent Die Zauberflöte on Klara radio. The complete opera will be broadcast live in the Scala opera programme from 8 pm. You can listen to Klara on the Internet as well: www.klara.be.

On 22 November Semiramis premiered at Det Kongelige Teater in Copenhagen. This is the Danish title of Rossini’s opera Semiramide, which was on at the Flanders Opera during the festive season two years ago.

On 11 November the Flanders Opera Children’s Chorus will be appearing on Canvas in a broadcast of Benjamin Britten’s War Requiem. Britten wrote his War Requiem in 1962 as an indictment of the madness of war.
