Opera XXI launch

On Wednesday 27 March a press conference was held for what is now the third Opera XXI festival. This biennial festival will be held from 14 to 25 May and presents contemporary musical theatre.

Four world premieres

The 2013 festival consists of five productions, including four world premieres and, for the first time, also a children’s production. This year we will be examining grand opera from Auber to Wagner, the disturbing world of Michel de Ghelderode and the playful universe of Toon Tellegen. In Tragedy of a Friendship, a collaborative production by Jan Fabre, writer Stefan Hertmans and composer Moritz Eggert, the turbulent friendship between Richard Wagner and Friedrich Nietzsche plays a central role.

New style

This new festival brings with it a new house-style and accompanying website. From now until the festival you can go to www.operaxxi.be and follow the preparations in word, music and images.

Opera XXI is presented by deSingel, Flanders Opera, Muziektheater Transparant, Champ dAction and LOD.
