Mahler guides through light and darkness

In the second concert featuring conductor Dmitri Jurowski the focus is on Mahler. His Fifth Symphony is a musical journey that takes you from cold darkness to jubilant and blessed light. The Adagietto won the hearts of many people thanks to the film classic Death in Venice. This happiness is contrasted with rejected youthful love with Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen, for singing and orchestra. An attempt to escape broken love results, like in Schubert's gripping Winterreise song cycle, in a wandering existence.

Tickets from € 10.00 to € 55.00

Apart from maestro Dmitri Jurowski, who conducts the orchestra, Viennese baritone Georg Nigl shows his best side performing Mahler's songs. He is known for his affinity with 19th century songs and has an impressive concert repertoire. This concert has an extra international touch: later in December it will also be at the prestigious Rostropovitch Festival in Baku (Azerbaijan).

Gimv supports chief conductor Dmitri Jurowski.
