Sounds of the Russian soul

Lovers of the unfathomable Russian soul can really let themselves go: we are organising a genuine Russian evening in the opera. On the programme are Songs & dances of death of Mussorgsky and the Fourth Symphony of Tchaichovsky. The four songs about the different appearances of death seamlessly bring together narrative and drama. In its turn, Tchaikovsky’s symphony guarantees intense whirling emotions, and one of the most demanding Russian orchestral scores. Chief conductor Dmitri Jurowski holds the musical reins. You can't get more Russian than this!

Team

Russian Irina Makarova performs Mussorgsky's haunting songs. She is an established name in the renowned Russian theaters of Moscow and St. Petersburg and from 2005 to 2007 was closely connected with the Scala in Milan. Dmitri Jurowski, who in previous seasons also conducted the Flanders Opera Orchestra, again shows the versatility of the Orchestra with Tchaikovsky’s Fourth Symphony.

Gimv supports chief conductor Dmitri Jurowski.
