Biography

The German mezzo-soprano Claudia Mahnke studied singing at the Academy of Music "Carl Maria von Weber" in Dresden and was a member of the ensemble of the Stuttgart Opera before she joined the ensemble of the Frankfurt Opera in 2006 where she performs a wide range of roles including Charlotte (Werther), Lucretia (The Rape of Lucretia), Cherubino (Le Nozze di Figaro), Giovanna Seymour (Anna Bolena), Giulietta (Les Contes d'Hoffmann), Judith (Duke Bluebeard’s Castle), Marguerite (La Damnation de Faust), and Brangäne (Tristan und Isolde). Her repertoire includes furthermore Rosina (Il Barbiere di Siviglia), Octavian (Der Rosenkavalier), Orlofsky (Die Fledermaus), and Fricka (Das Rheingold). In 2001, she gave her debut at the Opéra National de Lyon as Dorabella (Così fan tutte), and in 2002 at the Deutsche Oper Berlin as Cherubino. In 2002 she gave her debut as Komponist (Ariadne auf Naxos) at the San Francisco Opera, where she also sang Dorabella, Cherubino and Zerlina (Don Giovanni). She also performs regularly at the Bavarian State Opera in Munich and at the Staatsoper Berlin. In 2004 she was named "Singer of the Year" in the international critics’ survey of the magazine “Opernwelt”.
