The altmezzo Birgit Langenhuysen initially studied literature at the University of Nijmegen with specialization in dramaturgy and musicology. Afterwards she studied singing at the Utrecht Conservatory. In operatic roles she was heard as Third Lady/Die Zauberflöte, Orlofsky/Die Fledermaus, Mrs.Noah/Noye 's Fludde, Sourceres/Dido and Aeneas and in the titlerole of Carmen. She also sang in the creation of L'Infinito of Tristan Keuris and performances of Les Noces by Stravinsky with the Dutch Dance Theater. As oratoriosinger she frequently sang works by Bach, Dvořák, Mendelssohn, Purcell, Rossini, Saint-Saens and Vivaldi. She also explores the areas beyond the classical repertoire, so she formed the duo De Dames with staged songs, including a Tour de l'amour with French chansons and a program about Kurt Weill. She was a member of the Stardust jazz quartet, sang with The Vendetta Music Motown and gave several performances for children with the quartet Kassiopeia. This season she sings in the production of Erotische Fabels (Erotic Myths) by Johan Smet with text by Adam Frank.
Birgit Langenhuysen is permanently linked to the chorus of Flanders Opera and was a soloist for Suor Angelica, Rigoletto, Idomeneo, Frau ohne Schatten and Cendrillon. She also sang Folk Songs of L. Berio and Dover Beach by S. Barber.
Recently engaged in
